Teaching

 

Taught a wide range of courses in Egypt (Cairo University, American University), USA (University of California, Davis, Virginia Tech) and United Arab Emirates (UAE University, Al-Ain).
A sample list includes:  Project Management, Image Processing and Computer Vision, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Programming and Algorithms, Data Structures, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Computer Graphics, Microprocessor Based Systems I & II (HW / assembly language / interfacing / applications), Computer Architecture, Digital Logic Design I & II  (introductory and advanced) and Supervision of graduation projects in different fields.

 

Academic Development
 

  • Involved in the establishment of the joint degrees between Egyptian Universities and leading US and International Universities to be delivered via different mechanisms utilizing new communications and networking technology.
  • Shared in curricula and course development at several places.

o   Actively shared in the process of lab and network renovation at several universities.

o   Interested in the engineering student training issues.  Performed detailed study on problems, issues and recommendations.

o   Have particular interest in new technology tools to serve education:

o   Started a pilot project with Virginia Tech where I remotely supervised Masters student at VT while actually being in Cairo.  The project was successful and the student was awarded the degree in September 1998.

o   Actively participated in Work Group IV, Administrative Aspects, Euro-Egyptian Symposium on Distance Education by Satellite, April 1999,

o   Attended several workshops on lecturing and the educational process

§  Regional Workshop on New Approaches to Engineering Education, Al-Ain, UAE, 1995.

§  Enhanced Engineering Education Experience Workshop, 1994.  The workshop was held in cooperation between United Arab Emirates University and Drexel University, USA.  The workshop covered the Drexel and Arizona experiment in teaching Engineering in a non-traditional fashion and stress on the hands on activities from the very beginning.

§  Microteaching and how to prepare lectures, UAE University, 1992.

§  Preparation of University young Assist. Professors, Cairo University, 1989.

§  Voice and lecturing, University of California, Davis, 1988.  How to use different frequency bands to avoid fatigue, get attention of your audience and stress certain ideas.
